My new favourite show / organization!

So while I have been in California I have had the luxury of having the animal planet channel! To all of those who know me, I did a happy dance when I found out.  Having been a volunteer at two different humane society's I am a HUGE fan of animal rescue and adoption shows.  Another well known fact about me is that I love Pitt bulls and AM staffs.  So when I came across Pitbulls and Parolees I was in heaven! The past few days have been a little overcast and chilly in Palm Springs so I have been watching back to back episodes of this show.  It is unreal! Her company is called Villalobos Rescue Center in Canyon Country, CA. My favourite part is that they are giving the most misunderstood breed a second chance while they are also giving individuals on parole a second chance as well.  The owner, Tia Torres, is a tough love kind of women but shows her immensely large heart through the care for these dogs and employees.  Another great part of the show is that all the dogs she has at the ranch are available for adoption and the website is given out on the show.  I have been anxiously waiting for my college graduation so I can finally adopt the best friend that I have been dreaming about.  I am not sure how the adoption through her rescue works for Canadians, but I will be calling her first!  There is no better feeling than helping a dog and making that small difference.  For anyone who is looking for a fun-loving addition to their family, check out their website and adoption page.

Here are some dogs up for adoption!

This little cutie is Bond!
This sweetie is a Hurricane Katrina dog who has come a long way! Her name is Lily :)

Well, time to watch some more Pitbulls and Parolees!

Antsy to Take Off!

Well, good news folks! I am officially finished all of my exams and back at my parents house in Cochrane, AB.  The weird thing is that I am here alone! My parents have been in Cali for the past 3 weeks (they live there for four months of the year), my childhood dog is in the kennel, and my brother and sister-to-be are running errands in the city!  Its comforting to be home but eerie that I am here alone! On the plus side, I was able to wrap all of my presents in privacy!  I am so excited for everyone to open their gifts.  I did a lot of homemade gifts this year and I think that they will be greatly appreciated... well hopefully haha.  Its a strange feeling to be done school and on vacation.  I feel like I should be doing something.  But I am all packed and ready to fly to Cali tomorrow.  Looking forward to shopping and posting some fashion blogs! I have lots of pictures to take and posts in store :)  SUPER excited to show off my recent swimsuit I designed.  Stay tuned ;)

Happy Holidays!

Feature Time - Miss Teaka

So I figured it was time to highlight some really interesting and fabulous people.  My first victim, is Miss Teaka! This girl is beyond fabulous.  Her shy and quiet demeanor makes her as cute and innocent as a kitten but trust me, shes spunky.  I have had the pleasure of being one of her classmates in fashion school.  While working on the same drafting table we got to talking and eventually became friends.

Through random conversations I found out that she actually has a blog of her own.  I went to check it out not knowing what to expect and I was shocked to see how creative and well, perfectly Teaka it is!  Upon reading through her posts I came across her "creations" tab.  Through there lies multiple creative and original craft ideas! She shows you a unique way to make a chandellier, decoration ideas, clothing transformations and many more.  But my ABSOLUTE favourite was the fabric flower one!

Here is a picture of these cute, and easy fabric flowers that can be made with a simple hot glue gun!
These are Teaka's Flowers
I attempted to make them as well and they proved to be very simple.  -- And yes, I glued them over a pizza box for safety, ahh embarrassment.

I added little buttons for an extra charm.

All of Teaka's amazing thoughts, stories, creations, and so much more can be found at http://www.lifelikehoney.ca/

I am very fortunate to know a lovely lady like her, and am so much more fortunate to call her my friend.
Check her out!

An appetizer that will keep your guests wanting more!

So this recipe I received from my brothers bride-to-be Miss Jillian.  Miss Jillian has been a part of our family for 6 years, since my brother was 15!  She is a culinary goddess in disguise.  I hope you like this warm, flavourful spinach dip as much as we have!

Mix together:
2 blocks of cream cheese and 1/2 cup of miracle whip. (make sure the cream cheese is smooth and not so hardened together.)
Add 1 box thawed frozen spinach
1 tsp or one clove chopped garlic,
2tsp of dill,
1/2 or 3/4 cup grated cheese
1/4 cup bacon bits.

Transfer all of this into a caserole or oven safe dish and pop it in the oven @ 350 until it is warm throughout and the cheese inside is melted.

Serve with either a french bread loaf  or sour dough bread works great too!

Enjoy!

'Tis the season to get your nails done!

So I happen to be ditching this cold Canadian weather and am trading it in for sunny palm springs for a week! Thank goodness!  Only 3 exams until I can swap my snow covered boots for my 5" wedges!  Anyways, in preparation for my vacation I figured I should do something with these beaten-from-sewing nails. This friend of a friend I have named Miss Heather does peoples nails out of her very trendy and cozy house in Lethbridge, AB for extremely cheap.  I decided to book an appointment with her as soon a I saw the creative work she has done.  Hopefully I have convinced her to start a blog of her own, as she was previously interested.  I decided to go with the classic white tips and got in the christmas spirit when adding two little green and red festive gems on my thumbs.  Heather is so creative with her nails and can do pretty much any colour combo and design.  So to anyone reading this blog in Lethbridge you need to go see her! comment and her info will be available.

Now that I have the christmas break to cut back on my sewing, hopefully my nails will stay pretty and christmassy for the next couple weeks! Thanks again Heather!

Happy Holidays!

Studying... who needs it?!

Just kidding.. I do.  I find myself searching for any distraction I can find to put off my studying.  That includes blogging! What an addiction.  I am sitting here in my bright green Victoria's Secret Pink pajamas surrounded by boring text books, my lap top, notebooks, and an empty bad of chocolate covered almonds.  Okay I admit, I am a stress eater.  For some reason I think I can convince myself that its okay to eat a bag of chocolate covered almonds because they are "organic"... will someone please explain to me where I got that from?

Currently I am studying for my Factory Management exam.  My head is a blur of costing sheets, production processes, seam/stitch variations, and extremely boring "labelling".  Unfortunately, my head should be full of way more.  This Exam is three days away and I also have to study for a Management exam and Computer Pattern Drafting! Yikes.
Its a little sad that I am in my graduating year and still havent found the most effective way to engrain the knowledge into my skull.  I wonder if there is an ultimate study technique out there.  I guess its a little to late to be questioning that!

Well, that was my stressful rant. Now its time to get back to the books!

A tribute to the best support system I know!

I figured that before I blogged more about stories and people I should probably introduce you to a name that will be coming up a lot. That lovely lady happens to be Miss Stephanie.  A lot of people I know have a good bond with their roommates. Well, our bond exceeds that immensely.  We have been friends since grade 2! Correction - The best of friends.   She was there when my first "boyfriend" dumped me on the elementary playgrounds, and will probably be there for my last break up too.  I believe that everyone has a soul-mate of a friend.  I just happened to be lucky enough to have met her while I still was a gap-toothed boy crazy kid.

They say that a true friend shines when times get hard.  Stephanie has proved this statement correct time after time.  When my great grandma passed away this fall she had a tub of icecream waiting for me and a extremely loving card.  She is the one who held me on the floor crying.  And little things like that will never be forgotten.

I believe that best friends bring out the best in eachother.  We laugh till we cry on a daily basis, can sense when something is wrong with eachother, have no secrets, and can spend copious amounts of time together without growing tiresome.  We plan the rest of our lives around eachother and I find comfort knowing that wherever I end up, when I see her it will be like coming home.  That warm, familiar place that I love so much.

I should probably end this love fest here, so for all you people out there who have that friendship that Miss Steph and I do, cherish it! Dont let it change, you might never have the chance to have a friendship like that again.

Love xo
